MUSIC MINISTRY
Music has always been a vibrant and meaningful expression of worship within The Salvation Army, and our band, songsters (choir), and worship team each play a special role in leading our church family in praise. Through brass, vocals, and contemporary instruments, these groups work together to create worship that is both heartfelt and uplifting, helping people connect with God in powerful and personal ways. Salvation Army music ministry is not about performance, but about service — using musical gifts to share the message of hope, faith, and God’s love with the church and the wider community. Whether through a reflective song, uplifting brass piece, or a spirit-filled time of congregational worship, our musicians prayerfully lead others into God’s presence and help prepare hearts to receive His Word.
“Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts.” — Colossians 3:16
SENIOR BAND
In addition to faithfully supporting Sunday worship, our Band plays an active and meaningful role in reaching beyond the church walls into the community. Throughout the year, members regularly visit local nursing homes, sharing uplifting and familiar music that brings joy, comfort, and encouragement to residents. These special times often spark memories, invite sing-alongs, and create heartfelt moments of connection through the power of music.
During the Christmas season, the Band also participates in The Salvation Army’s kettle campaign, filling the air with festive sounds while helping inspire generosity and hope. As they play carols in the community, their music becomes part of a larger mission—supporting vital programs and reminding others of the true spirit of the season. Through outreach and service, the Band uses their musical gifts not only to enhance worship, but to share God’s love in practical and visible ways throughout Oshawa.
SONGSTERS
The Songsters serve as a dedicated choral group within our church family, offering special music that adds depth and beauty to our Sunday gatherings. Through carefully prepared harmonies and expressive singing, they share songs that reflect the truth of Scripture and draw attention to God’s grace and faithfulness. Their ministry is rooted in worship, seeking not to perform but to inspire reflection and strengthen the congregation’s praise.
Beyond Sunday mornings, the Songsters also participate in special services, seasonal programs, and community events throughout the year. Whether contributing to Christmas and Easter celebrations or other significant occasions, they present meaningful choral selections that communicate hope and encouragement. Through their unity and commitment, they remind us of the powerful role music plays in sharing the message of Christ and uplifting hearts in faith.
WORSHIP TEAM
Each week, our Worship Team brings energy, heart, and authenticity to our time of praise, leading a diverse selection of worship songs that reflect both the rich heritage of the church and today’s expressions of faith. Blending meaningful hymns with contemporary worship music, they create an atmosphere that is both engaging and accessible for all generations.
Their desire is not simply to perform, but to lead—inviting the entire congregation to participate, sing boldly, and fix their eyes on Christ. Through thoughtful song choices and a spirit of humility, the Worship Team helps prepare hearts for God’s Word and encourages a deeper, personal encounter with Him each Sunday.
KIDS/YOUTH MUSIC
Our kids and youth have exciting opportunities to explore and develop their musical gifts through the Beginner Band, Youth Band (YP Band), and Singing Company. These programs provide a welcoming and encouraging environment where young people can learn to play instruments, strengthen their vocal abilities, and build confidence step by step. Whether they are just starting out or continuing to grow in their skills, each child is supported and challenged at their own pace.
Through weekly rehearsals, group learning, and special opportunities to participate in services or events, kids experience the joy of making music together as a team. Along the way, they learn important values such as commitment, cooperation, and perseverance. Most importantly, these programs help young people express their faith through music, using their talents to glorify God while forming friendships and memories that will last for years to come.
